Expected Outcomes of the BWRT®-T Course

Participants in the BWRT®-T course can expect to:

  • Understand developmental psychology relevant to adolescence and early adulthood, including neurotypical and neurodivergent presentations.

  • Explore the intersection of trauma, culture, and identity within the South African context, and learn how these impact emotional and behavioral responses in young people.

  • Identify typical psychological challenges experienced by adolescents, university students, and young adults—such as anxiety, rejection sensitivity, emotional dysregulation, and identity confusion—and how these can be addressed using BWRT®.

  • Learn how to conduct developmentally-appropriate BWRT® sessions, including how to explore traumatic memories, identify unresolved emotions, and co-create timelines and mind maps with clients.

  • Develop tools for effective psychoeducation to help clients understand and reframe their responses using brain-based explanations and visual tools (e.g., the Iceberg of Trauma and neural pathway visuals).

  • Receive detailed case studies illustrating the use of BWRT® with young clients, including real-life examples of adjustment and intervention.

  • Be equipped with a set of tailored intervention tools suitable for therapeutic, academic, or support contexts involving youth.

  • Strengthen cultural competence in delivering BWRT® in a diverse and multilingual society.

By the end of the course, practitioners will be equipped to offer responsive, age-appropriate, and neuro-inclusive BWRT® interventions to young clients navigating critical stages of development.

All practitioners: Must have completed BWRT® Level 1
International practitioners: Must have an active membership with the BWRT® Terence Watts Institute.
